The history of diplomatic relations between Albania and Portugal dates back to 1922, when Portugal recognized Albania’s independence on May 25, 1922. Both countries are members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As a member of the European Union (EU), Portugal supports Albania in its European integration path.

Between Portugal and Albania there is mutual support, understanding and friendship, which have increased over the years.

Albania and Portugal enjoy a good level of political dialogue, characterized with exchange of visits at high level during the last years.
