Spain is located in southwestern Europe and has an area of 505,957 km2.

Madrid is the capital of Spain. The political system is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Spain has been part of the EU since January 1, 1986.

Diplomatic relations between Albania and Spain were established in 1914, when Spain recognized the state of Prince Vid. They were restored, after being interrupted in 1939, on September 12, 1986. Albania covers diplomatic relations with Spain from its Embassy in Madrid, while Spain covers Albania from its Embassy in Tirana.

Albania and Spain cooperate not only within the UN, EU and NATO, but also in other multilateral initiatives.

Albania and Spain enjoy good bilateral relations, in the spirit of mutual aid and cooperation. Both countries are members of NATO.

Spain, as a member country, supports Albania’s integration into the European Union. Is appreciated Spain’s commitment during the Presidency of the EU in the second half of 2023 in keeping the enlargement policy and the Western Balkans at the table of discussions.

Both countries have very good cooperation within multilateral organizations and initiatives. They share common values and mutually support each other.

In recent years there has been a high intensification of the exchange of high-level contacts between the two countries.
