Sweden is the largest country in the Nordic Region and has also the biggest population. Sweden shares land borders with Norway in the west and Finland in the northeast. It also has coasts facing its Nordic neighbors Denmark, Norway, Åland and Finland. The capital of Sweden is Stokholm. Sweden is a constitutional monarchy and King Carl XVI Gustaf is Sweden’s non-political head of state. The monarch has primarily ceremonial and representative duties.

Sweden is a member of the EU but has retained the krona as its currency. On 7 March 2024, Sweden became a full member of NATO.

Diplomatic relations between Sweden and Albania were (re) established on June 20, 1969.

Over the last two decades, Sweden has fully supported our country’s integration into the European Union. The main instrument of Swedish development aid in our country is the activity of the Swedish Agency for Development and Cooperation (SIDA).
