Official reception on the occasion of Albania's election to the UN Security Council

A few days after the voting in the UN General Assembly, where Albania received 175 votes as a member of the Security Council for the next two years, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka organized an official reception at the Palace of Brigades in Tirana, with the participation of the Prime Minister Rama, members of the government cabinet, the diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana, academics, Former Foreign Ministers and media representatives.

Prime Minister Rama said that Albania’s election in the Security Council is a significant achievement for the Western Balkans, while emphasizing that this is a good opportunity for Albania to do more for itself, for the others and especially for the region.

Minister Xhaçka expressed her gratitude to the diplomats and representatives of the Albanian Foreign Service for this achievement and thanked the representatives of the Eastern European Group at the UN for this great opportunity granted to Albania.

According to the Albanian head diplomat, Albania's mandate in the Security Council is an extraordinary opportunity for all Albanians to advance national interests.

"Today we are seen as a serious country that contributes to security, peace and stability in the region and beyond. We are seen today as a country that has the maturity and capacity to contribute to discussions on the most concerning issues at the highest world forum.
We go to the Security Council with a clear agenda of priorities, carefully and safely of course, aware of the modest opportunities that a country like Albania has in influencing global politics. But we go there with great confidence in our powerful ideas and the succesful model that Albania represents today.

"I am convinced that we will be able to turn Albania's mandate in the Security Council into a success story and a source of pride for all Albanians," the minister said in her speech.

On January 1, 2021 Albania officially takes its place in the UN Security Council, where our country will be represented by a team of distinguished experts rigorously selected following the call  for the application to be part of our desired and aspired dream team for this very important task.
