Protocol to be followed by visitors entering the territory of Albania during the Covid-19 pandemics

All those interested in traveling to Albania, herewith are reminded that Albania has opened its borders on June 1, 2020.


  • The 14-day quarantine obligation will not be applied except in special cases if ordered by respective health authorities;
  • At the border crossing points no specific documents are required to enter the Albanian territory;
  • At the entry border points only the body temperature will be checked, as it should not exceed 37.5 degrees. If exceeded, transiting the territory will not be possible;
  • Visitors entering Albania should also be informed about the regulations concerning the entering or transiting other countries, as it varies from country to country;
  • Citizens traveling by land to Albania should obtain prior information at the Embassies of the countries through which they have to transit, so they can for be informed about the rules set by these countries in the framework of the pandemic.


  • Those who travel by sea are advised to communicate with Albanian representatives in the respective countries regarding relevant entry/transit regulations.
  • Citizens traveling from third countries by air and using one of the International Airports for transit should know that they will be allowed to leave the airport transit area and/or will not be allowed to continue their journey if the next destination is another country of the Schengen Area, as it will not be considered a transit but entry into the Schengen Area. Therefore the airport authorities will return them to the departing countries.


  • All passengers who are allowed to enter the territory of the Republic of Albania, in addition to complying with the protocols about airline international standards world-wide, must also follow and respect the rules listed below:
  • Persons must be equipped with masks to enter the Tirana International Airport terminal;
  • Children under 6 years and persons, who for health reasons cannot wear a mask, are exempted from this rule;
  • Masks should be changed every 4 hours or when damaged and/or wet because they lose effectiveness. Masks should be worn according to manufacturer’s specifications;
  • In addition, preventive measures are applied, regarding respiratory ethics, facial touch and hand hygiene.
  • If the passenger is identified with the previously specified COVID-19 symptoms they will not be allowed to continue their journey and enter Albania;
  • Designated places for entry and exit of visitors/passengers from the airport must be followed;
  • The passengers can access automated points at the airport which can provide them masks and disinfectants;
  • The Tirana International Airport has provided automatic dispensers for masks and disinfectants for passengers to buy if needed;
  • The passengers entering the terminal must go through the disinfectant tunnels;
  • The movement flow in the terminal is one-way, the entrance to the terminal is allowed only at the entrance 3 located in the front area of the terminal and the exit from the terminal is allowed at the side gate facing the parking lot.
  • In the check-in counters passengers must sign a report related to their COVID-19 status;
  • After arrival and before departure the passengers body temperature will be checked, and if higher than 37.5 degrees their journey will be discontinued;
  • During the stay in the airport area passengers must keep the social distance of 1.5 meters from each other, such as during the delivery of documents or luggage, keeping the distance from the counter, at the exit to depart (gates), in the internal buses of the airport, during boarding and disembarking on the plane, and in the meantime must observe the rules put in place by the Airport Authorities.
  • Priority is given to the elderly, people in need and families with minor children;
  • Passengers not following these regulations will not be allowed to enter the Airport. Their trip will be discontinued and/or will be escorted out by the authorities.
  • In case passengers manifest symptoms, they will be asked to discontinue their travel and to comply with the rules of their domicile state.
  • CONAD market, Duty Free Shop and The ForEx Service from BKT, remain open at limited opening hours.


  •   Keep in mind the local measures which are currently in force:
  • Restricted public movement between 10.00 P.M to 06.00 A.M, except for health reasons or emergencies. The E-Albania portal must be used for special permission.
  • Bars, restaurants, night clubs are closed between 10.00 P.M to 06.00 A.M. Exception for delivery services
  • No indoor and outdoor gatherings of more than 10 people.
  • Mask is obligatory in public spaces and institutions, not inside bars/restaurants.
