INFORMATION ON FOREIGNERS TRAVELLING WITH ANIMALS TO THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA

Pursuant to Article 33, point 5 of Law no. 10465, dated 29.09.2011 “On the Veterinary Service in the Republic of Albania”, as amended, companion animals which, for non-commercial purposes, enter or leave the territory of the Republic of Albania through Border Inspection Points (PIK), are accompanied with veterinary documentation that are subject to veterinary control at PIK.

Foreign citizens travelling with animals to the Republic of Albania, must ensure they meet the the following proof of documentation:

  1. When travelling with companion animals (dogs, cats, etc.) the animal must:

a) be identified (by a clearly legible tattoo, or by an electronic identification system, or by the register)

b) be accompanied by a passport issued by an official veterinarian certifying that:

  • i. Vaccination against rabies has been carried out
  • ii. When necessary, preventive measures related to other diseases have been carried out on the animals in question
  1. The movement of companion animals (dogs, cats, etc.), which are under the age of 3 months and unvaccinated, is allowed, if:

a) they are accompanied by a passport and have stayed in the country in which they were born since birth without having contact with wild animals and

animals that have been exposed to infections/diseases; or

b) they are accompanied by their mothers from whom they are still dependent.
