The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs announces that, on 26 August 2026, an operation for the voluntary repatriation from Syria of five Albanian nationals, including women and children, was successfully completed. The operation marks the culmination of a long and carefully coordinated process, which required continuous cooperation among Albanian institutions, our diplomatic and consular representations, and the authorities of the countries involved.

The repatriation of Albanian nationals from conflict-affected areas is an expression of the State’s responsibility to protect its citizens, even under difficult and complex circumstances. Their return to the homeland concludes an important phase of this process, but not the institutional responsibility towards them. Upon their arrival in Albania, the repatriated nationals will be provided with the necessary assistance and will undergo health and psychosocial assessments. The relevant institutions will continue, in a coordinated manner, their work to ensure their accommodation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude to the Albanian institutions and structures involved in this process, as well as to the foreign authorities, particularly the Syrian authorities, which facilitated the completion of the procedures and the safe transit of the nationals. The successful implementation of the operation demonstrates the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and coordinated action in fulfilling the State’s responsibilities towards its citizens.

The Inter-Institutional Task Force will continue its work both to ensure the full follow-up of the rehabilitation and reintegration process and to facilitate the repatriation of other Albanian nationals whenever the necessary conditions for their safe return are in place.
