Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Washington, D.C. – In the framework of her official visit to the United States of America, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, held a series of high-level meetings in Washington, aimed at further advancing the strategic partnership between Albania and the United States.

Minister Spiropali’s first meeting was with Mr. Charles McLaughlin, Special Assistant to President Trump and Senior Director for Europe and Russia at the National Security Council (NSC). Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and on Albania’s new role as a Founding Member of the Peace Board. It was underscored that Albania’s participation in this initiative of President Trump positions the country as a proactive contributor to international peace and security, while further enhancing coordination with its strategic ally, the United States.

Both sides shared the view that the Peace Board will function as an action-oriented, principles-based mechanism, aimed at promoting sustainable solutions for conflict prevention and resolution.

Albania also reaffirmed its commitment to stand alongside the United States as an inaugural member of the International Stabilization Force (ISF), in line with President Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, reflecting Albania’s role as a provider of stability and security.

During the meeting, Minister Spiropali confirmed Albania’s readiness to convene the second session of the Albania–U.S. Strategic Dialogue, with a view to further deepening cooperation across areas of shared interest, including economic, trade, energy, and development sectors.

Subsequently, Minister Spiropali met with the Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Congressman Brian Mast. Cooperation in the field of security as NATO Allies, participation in joint military missions, and the shared commitment to stability in the Western Balkans, including Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic perspective, were highlighted as key pillars of the bilateral relationship.

The Minister also held meetings with Congressman Ritchie Torres, Co-Chair of the Congressional Albanian Issues Caucus, as well as with Congressman William R. Keating, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Europe of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. During these meetings, the continued engagement of the United States in the Western Balkans was welcomed, and the importance of Albania’s constructive role in advancing stability and democratic development in the region was underscored.
