Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

On the 17th anniversary of Albania’s accession to NATO, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, highlighted in a post on X the historic significance of this milestone and Albania’s role within the Alliance.

“On this day, 17 years ago, Albania took a decisive step toward its future by becoming a full member of NATO — a historic moment that firmly anchored our Euro-Atlantic path and consolidated the foundations of our national security,” Minister Hoxha stated.

Reflecting on Albania’s contributions over the years, he underlined that the country has proven itself a committed and reliable Ally, actively contributing to NATO’s missions and operations, while promoting stability in the Western Balkans, including through its continued support for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic perspective.

The Minister further emphasized that Albania is fully aligned with NATO’s evolving priorities, ranging from fair burden-sharing and increased defense investment to strengthening resilience, embracing innovation, and advancing new technologies in a rapidly changing security environment.

Looking ahead, he noted that Albania has the honor of preparing to host an upcoming NATO Summit for the first time in the region, describing this as a clear expression of trust in Albania’s role, reliability, and contribution within the Alliance.

“In an increasingly complex and uncertain world, Albania remains steadfast — united with its Allies, committed to collective defense, and dedicated to safeguarding peace, freedom, and our shared values,” Minister Hoxha concluded.
