Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Tirana, 24 March 2026 – On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of NATO’s intervention in Kosovo, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ferit Hoxha, commemorated this historic moment through a public statement on X.

Minister Hoxha underlined that twenty-seven years ago, the international community chose not to remain indifferent in the face of violence and ethnic cleansing perpetrated against Albanians in Kosovo. NATO’s intervention through Operation “Allied Force” marked a decisive turning point in the protection of human life and dignity.

“This was a defining moment, when the responsibility to protect innocent lives prevailed over hesitation, and when collective action demonstrated that the free world would not stand idle in the face of mass atrocities,” Minister Hoxha stated.

Recalling Albania’s role during that period, the Minister praised the solidarity shown by Albanian institutions and citizens, who opened their doors to thousands of refugees from Kosovo, providing shelter, food, and protection in cooperation with international partners.

Today, Kosovo stands as a free and independent state, bearing witness to the resilience and sacrifice of its people, as well as to its steady progress in strengthening democratic institutions and contributing to peace and stability in the region.

Minister Hoxha emphasized that Albania, as a NATO member, remains firmly committed to supporting Kosovo on its path toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

In conclusion, the Minister honored the victims, paid tribute to the courage of those who stood against oppression and acknowledged the decisive role of allies and international partners.

Kosovo continues its journey with confidence and determination toward integration into the Euro-Atlantic family, grounded in the shared values of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.
