Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Speaking from New York, while attending high-level events during the United Nations General Assembly, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, emphasized that the rise of antisemitism threatens the stability of societies worldwide, calling for vigilance.

“Albania is at the forefront of international efforts to address misconceptions, hate speech, and discrimination,” he stated, recalling that Albania adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism in 2020, becoming the first Muslim-majority country to do so.

During his remarks at the High-Level Ministerial Event on Combatting Antisemitism and Hate Speech Through Education, Minister Hasani highlighted the role of disinformation and misinformation in amplifying antisemitism and condemned narratives that distort the crimes committed by Hamas.

“What we are witnessing today is simply unacceptable. We express serious concern about narratives, both online and offline, that deny or distort the crimes committed,” he stressed.

Albania remains a key advocate in the global fight against antisemitism, discrimination, and religious hatred, standing firm in its commitment to promoting peace and tolerance.

The meeting, organized by France, brought together global leaders to discuss the alarming rise in antisemitic incidents worldwide, exacerbated by recent developments in the Middle East.
