Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

New York, September 25, 2024 – During the working breakfast organized by the Albanian Chairmanship with the member countries of the U.S.-Adriatic Charter (A-5), the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, emphasized that Albania remains firmly committed to promoting peace and stability, fostering dialogue, and increasing cooperation in the Western Balkans.

“We also stand as strong advocates for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans,” said Minister Hasani.

For Albania, as the chair of the Adriatic Charter, the implementation of the Open Door Policy remains a key priority.

“A positive response to Kosovo’s longstanding request for membership is a crucial and overdue step that must be resolved as soon as possible,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by the member and observer countries of the U.S.-Adriatic Charter, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the United States, Kosovo (observer), Serbia (observer), and Slovenia (invited).

During the working breakfast held throughout the UN High-Level Week, Albania’s focus on leading the initiative was appreciated, and discussions centered on developments in the region and further strengthening cooperation in the face of shared security challenges.
