Federative Republic of Brazil (Republica Federativa do Brazil) with its 8,515,770 sq. km. and 208 million people, is the largest country in South America.

The capital is Brasilia, and the most populated city is Sao Paulo.

The Federation is composed of the union of the Federal District, the 26 states, and the 5,570 municipalities. Official language is Portuguese. Brazil is one of the most multicultural and ethnically diverse nations, due to the strong immigration from various places in the world.

Independence from Portugal was declared on 7 September 1822. Brazil’s current constitution, ratified on 5th October 1988, defines it as a democratic federal republic. Brazil has a bicameral National Congress (Senate and Chamber of Deputies)

Brazil has the eighth largest GDP in the world by both nominal and PPP measures (as of 2017). It is classified as an upper-middle income economy by the World Bank and a newly industrialized country, which holds the largest share of global wealth in Latin America.

Brazil is a founding member of the United Nations, the G20, BRICS, Union of South American Nations, Mercosur, Organization of American States, Organization of Ibero-American States, Community of Portuguese Language Countries, a member of specialized agencies of the UN, etc.

Bilateral relations Albania – Brazil

OVERVIEW

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Albania and the Federative Republic of Brazil were established on 4 April 1961.

After the 1990s, with the change of the political system in Albania, contacts were increased at all levels and in areas of mutual interest.

The respective Embassies opened in the year 2009, in Brasilia, and in 2010, in Tirana.

BILATERAL RELATIONS

Albania and Brazil enjoy good relations.

Our citizens can visit Brazil for touristic purposes without visa.

High level visits and meetings have taken place since year 2000, and a number of important agreements on political dialogue and economic cooperation are underway.

Brazil is the first commercial partner in Latin America. Bilateral trade has been growing constantly, however remaining in modest levels. Products of animal origin and meat dominates the imports from Brazil.

Both countries are interested to foster cooperation in trade, agriculture, tourism, energy, etc., and a number of initiatives are under process in order to complete legal and institutional framework and to establish direct contacts at different levels and among various actors.
