The Czech Republic, also known as Czechia for short, is located in Central Europe, with an area of 78,866 km2 and a population of 10.6 million. The official language is Czech. The Czech Republic is a parliamentary democracy.

The Czech Republic has made and continues to make an essential contribution to the processes of Albania’s integration into the European Union. Both countries have expressed the political will to further expand traditional relations, promoting the most efficient use of hitherto unexplored spaces in the economic and trade relations, especially in the sphere of energy, rail transport, tourism, culture, education, and science.

Diplomatic relations between Albania and Czechoslovakia were established on 5 July 1922 and were interrupted during the Second World War. They were restored on 10 December 1945. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, in December 1992, the Czech Republic requested its recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Albania. On 1 January 1993, Albania recognized the Czech Republic and on 4 January 1993, declared the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Both countries note with satisfaction that in recent years relations have gained a new momentum with the exchange of political visits at the highest levels.

The positive bilateral relations at the political level are also reflected in the economic cooperation between the two countries, which has marked a positive trend. Both sides have expressed their common interest to intensify relations in this field.

The main mechanism of economic cooperation is the meetings of the Joint Working Group Albania and the Czech Republic. The 7th Session of the last meeting was held in Tirana on 26 March 2024.

Czech tourists have shown an increased interest in visiting Albania throughout the year. As of 31 October 2023, two airlines, Ryanair and Wizzair, operate 5 times a week on the Prague -Tirana-Prague direct route. In June 2024, direct flights are also expected to start with the Smart Wings line, thus enabling direct flights for all days of the week.
