The United Arab Emirates lies in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula. It has an area of 83,600 km² and a population of 9,400,000 inhabitants.

The official language is Arabic. The economic and technological center of the country is Dubai while the government is located in Abu Dhabi.The Independence Day of UAE is in December 2, 1971.

OVERVIEW

Albania and the United Arab Emirates established diplomatic relations on June 1, 1992. Bilateral relations culminated in 2011 with the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Abu Dhabi, while the UAE covers the Republic of Albania from its Embassy in Athens, Greece.

BILATERAL RELATIONS

Both our countries cherish very good bilateral relations, extended in the fields of mutual interest, not only for bilateral issues but also for international ones.

Numerous reciprocal visits confirm the commitment of both parties to further enhance the level of relations and cooperation. In March 2022 Prime Minister H.E. Edi Rama and Foreign Minister H.E. Olta Xhacka has visited UAE, to celebrate the National Day to the Albanian pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020-2021. Bilateral agreements signed between Albania and the UAE is an example that countries cooperate in a secure legal environment in the fields of common interest.

From 2021, we witnessed the start of the direct flights from Dubai to Tirana (with Fly Dubai), and from Abu Dhabi to Tirana (with WizzAir), which has given a direct impact in tourism sector by the large number of the travelers from both sides, but at the same time has opened a new chapter for discovering new business opportunities.

Albania and the UAE for the period 2022-2023 will serve together in the seat of non-permanent member of the Security Council in the United Nations. As elected member of the Security Council, Albania will continue to work closely with UEA, in advancing the shared agendas and priorities, such as: Women peace and Security; Conflict resolution; Climate & Security; International rules-based order; Countering extremism.
