Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

New York, 23 September 2024 – At the working breakfast with Foreign Ministers of the Friends of the Western Balkans group, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, highlighted Albania’s commitment to reforms, alignment with the acquis, strengthening institutions, regional cooperation, and preparing companies for the EU single market.

Minister Hasani emphasized the need to gradually close the socio-economic convergence gap between the Western Balkans and the European Union.

“Amid geopolitical challenges, a shared path towards sustainable development, bridging the convergence gap, and creating opportunities is essential for both the Western Balkans and the EU.

A merit-based approach, with tangible benefits at each stage, is crucial to ensuring a smooth integration process, fostering stability, economic growth, and stronger regional ties,” stressed Minister Hasani.

The working breakfast, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, was attended by the Foreign Ministers of Italy, Austria, Croatia, Greece, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

The discussions focused on advancing integration reforms and resuming the integration process during the new institutional cycle.
