The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, participated in the panel discussion “Enlargement as Europe’s Next Geopolitical Tool”at the Bled Strategic Forum, alongside European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

In his remarks, Minister Hoxha underlined that, while enlargement is and must remain a strictly merit-based process, credibility is equally essential, as is maintaining the momentum of the accession negotiations.

“We have made, and continue to make, difficult choices, undertaken comprehensive reforms, and remain fully committed to strengthening our democratic institutions,” Minister Hoxha stated.

He emphasized that Albania does not view itself merely as a future beneficiary of the European project, but as an active contributor to the European Union.

“EU membership is both an aspiration and an offer. We seek the benefits of belonging, but we are equally ready to contribute to the strength, competitiveness, and security of the Union we aspire to join,” Minister Hoxha underscored.

The Minister noted that history has demonstrated that every round of enlargement has made the European Union stronger, more prosperous, and more influential.

“The next enlargement will be no different. On the contrary, in today’s geopolitical environment, it represents a strategic investment in a stronger, safer, and more united Europe,” Minister Hoxha concluded.
