Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs

Minister Hoxha has reacted to the request of Albanian students in North Macedonia to take their exams in the Albanian language.

Minister Hoxha – post on X:

I have closely followed the concerns raised on the just and legitimate request of Albanian students in North Macedonia to take their examinations in the Albanian language.

The use of one’s mother tongue is a fundamental right, guaranteed by the Constitution of North Macedonia and the Law on the Use of Languages. It must neither be restricted nor delayed by procedural obstacles. Where procedures prove inadequate or unclear, institutions have the responsibility to ensure fair and sustainable solutions.

This issue requires a measured and responsible approach, free from any attempts at politicization. It should be addressed with full institutional responsibility and in a spirit of respect for fundamental rights.

Democracies not only have the necessary mechanisms, but also the maturity to find solutions that balance the rule of law, legislation, and the rights of citizens.

Students deserve recognition for their civic engagement and for the democratic way in which they have expressed their demands. This calls for an equally responsible response—through constructive dialogue and solutions that fully uphold guaranteed rights.
