Albania joined the world in celebrating United Nations Day 2025, commemorating 80 years since the founding of the UN and 70 years of Albania’s membership.

The event, hosted by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in partnership with the United Nations in Albania, highlighted Albania’s strong commitment to peace, sustainable development, and human rights.

The Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ms. Vilma Premti emphasized Albania’s dedication to multilateralism and partnership with the UN, stating:

“Albania is proud to be an active member of the United Nations family for 70 years. Our commitment to peace, justice, and sustainable development remains steadfast as we work hand-in-hand with the UN to build a better future for all Albanians and the world.”

United Nations Resident Coordinator Ingrid Macdonald praised Albania’s active role in the UN system and its leadership in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. She highlighted the UN’s work in Albania, including support for human capital development, green and inclusive growth, strengthening rule of law and governance, and advancing gender equality.

The UN’s partnership with Albania has strengthened social services, enhanced local climate resilience, supported judicial reform, and promoted digital access to public services.

Albania’s leadership on gender equality continues to advance, reflecting the country’s commitment to turning rights into realities for all citizens.

A special video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres echoed the UN’s foundational promise: “We the peoples of the United Nations…” He called for renewed global solidarity and collective action to address pressing challenges such as conflict, climate change, and technological risks.
